IPL for Ocular Rosacea in Los Angeles

Treat the eyelids; the cheeks come along.

Rosacea rarely respects the lash line — the inflammation that reddens cheeks also feeds the eyelid vessels behind many stubborn dry eyes. IPL targets that shared machinery, which is why a dry eye course often leaves the face calmer too.

The two-for-one

Why eye-led IPL helps the face.

The shared mechanism

Rosacea’s abnormal surface vessels feed inflammation into the eyelid margin and meibomian glands; IPL’s light pulses close those vessels down.

The eye win

Paired with gland expression, IPL is the evaporative dry eye program’s core move: calmer lid margins, better oil flow, fewer flare-ups.

The visible win

The same pulses reduce facial redness and visible vessels across the treated zones, and patients routinely notice it by mid-course.

The course

IPL works as a series with maintenance as needed, planned from your meibography and skin findings. Candidacy depends on skin type and history — our eye doctors in Los Angeles screen first.

Common questions

IPL for rosacea, answered.

Anything else, call the office at 310-828-2010.

  • Medical first: we treat rosacea-driven dry eye and lid inflammation. The calmer, less-red skin is a welcome effect of the same physics.

  • Courses run as a series; many patients notice eye comfort and skin tone shifting mid-course, with maintenance planned from your response.

  • IPL suits many but not all skin types and histories — screening at the consult settles it before anything is scheduled.

  • It can help the eyelid side. Rosacea can clog the eyelid oil glands, and IPL applied to the skin of the cheeks and nose, together with gland expression, is FDA-authorized to improve signs of dry eye from oil-gland dysfunction. In the study FDA reviewed, tear-film stability improved more with IPL, while symptoms improved about equally with gland expression alone, so we decide after meibography and a skin screening, and gland expression comes with every IPL visit.

  • That is not well established yet. In the study FDA reviewed when it authorized IPL for dry eye from oil-gland dysfunction, patients had four sessions two weeks apart, each with gland expression, and results were measured 4 weeks after the last session; FDA also noted a lack of data on repeated treatment. So we plan maintenance sessions as needed from your follow-up meibography and skin findings.
