For Out-of-Town & Fly-In Patients

Patients travel from across the globe for complex scleral lens fittings at Cohenmehr Keratoconus Center.

Most fittings done in one week — one trip, no return flight

Clustered visitsLAX — closest major airportHotels on the Wilshire corridorRemote follow-up between trips

01The fly-in visit plan

Every trip is engineered to count.

Most fly-in scleral fittings are completed within one week, in one trip with no return flight. Tell us you’re traveling when you book: we scan on day one, have your free-form lenses made while you’re here, and dispense and train before you fly home. We plan for one trip; a second is the exception.

Before you fly
Records, prior maps and failed lenses reviewed ahead; a call settles what trip one can realistically include.
Day one — map and evaluate
Comprehensive evaluation, corneal imaging and the Eaglet ESP scleral map — hundreds of thousands of points — so your free-form lenses go into production the same day.
Mid-week — lenses made
Your custom lenses are manufactured on an expedited timeline while you enjoy LA, so nothing waits for a flight.
Before you fly home
Lenses dispensed, insertion and removal trained until routine, fit verified at the slit lamp. Refinements handled remotely with your home doctor when needed.
After
Refinements timed to your travel, and co-management with your home optometrist for the in-between.

The office

Rideshare
Drop at 12222 Wilshire Blvd; the entrance is at street level.
Hours
Mon 10am–5pm · Tue–Fri 8am–5pm — we time fly-in appointments around flights and traffic.
Parking
Free parking on Wellesley Ave, just south of Wilshire. Look for the “Retail Parking” sign.

03Where to stay

Base yourself on the Wilshire corridor.

Our eye clinic in Los Angeles sits on Wilshire at the Santa Monica border, so the easiest stays are the neighborhoods along the same line — our front desk keeps a current hotel shortlist; ask when you book.

Santa Monica
Ocean-side hotels and walkable evenings; one straight run east on Wilshire to the office.
Westwood
Hotels along Wilshire near UCLA, minutes east on the same boulevard.
Brentwood
Quieter stays just up San Vicente from the office.
Beverly Hills
Further east on Wilshire when the trip doubles as a getaway.

Making a weekend of it? We schedule fly-in visits early, so you can spend mornings in the chair and afternoons at the beach.

04Between visits

Distance care, without the distance problems.

  • Photo check-ins and calls between trips: small questions never wait for a flight
  • Co-management with your home optometrist: shared records, shared milestones
  • Lens care and solution guidance that works wherever you live
  • Honest triage: if something needs the chair, we say so and schedule around your travel

In network with VSP, EyeMed and many other vision plans — plans often cover part or all of medically necessary scleral lenses. We check benefits before you book a flight.

Common questions

Traveling, answered.

Anything else, call the office at 310-828-2010.

  • Often just one: most traveling patients complete the entire fitting within a single week — scan and evaluation on day one, lenses made on an expedited timeline mid-week, dispensing and training before the flight home. When a refinement is needed later, it can usually ride along with a planned visit or be co-managed with your doctor at home.

  • LAX is the closest major airport. Burbank, Long Beach and Orange County all work depending on your route; Santa Monica Airport serves private aviation near the office.

  • Yes — co-management is routine: shared records and measurements, with your local optometrist handling the in-between checks we design together.

  • We are in network with common vision plans including VSP and EyeMed, and plans often cover part or all of medically necessary scleral lenses. Call 310-828-2010 and we check your benefits before you travel.

  • Every lens that failed (with cases and solutions), prior prescriptions and corneal maps, surgeon records if you’ve had cross-linking or a transplant — and your questions.
