The Myopia Estimator.

See how fast your child’s nearsightedness could climb — and how much each treatment could slow it.

SetAge, prescription and risk factors.

SeeProjection to 18 — extended, dashed, to 25 — under five paths, from doing nothing to Ortho-K.

KnowAn illustration, not a prediction — the consultation measures your real trend.

01How the model works

Honest arithmetic, published inputs.

The estimator starts from a typical childhood progression curve — fastest in young eyes, flattening toward the late teens — then adjusts it for the risk factors research supports: age, parental myopia, East or Southeast Asian heritage, and outdoor time.

The baseline
Progression if nothing is done, drawn as the dashed line every treatment is measured against.
The treatment lines
Each option multiplies the yearly progression by its assumed slowing: about 50% for Ortho-K, from a 2023 review of trials; 71% for Stellest, from the study the FDA reviewed; about 50% for atropine and multifocals.
Projected at 18
Where each path lands, and how many diopters it avoided versus doing nothing.
What it is not
A diagnosis or a promise. Children progress in spurts; the consultation measures yours, and follow-ups verify the plan is working.
Reviewing a progression chart with a parent
The trend line is the first thing we read

02The five paths

Every line on the chart is a real option here.

Doing nothing
Glasses correct the blur, but the eye keeps elongating. This is the baseline the others beat.
Low-dose atropine
A nightly prescription drop; the simplest routine. Glasses still do the seeing.
Multifocal contacts
Daytime soft lenses that correct and control at once, including MiSight 1 Day.
Ortho-K — our lead option
Overnight lenses, glasses-free days. Currently $1,500 total, follow-ups included.
Stellest lenses
Control built into ordinary-looking glasses that have to be worn consistently.

Common questions

The estimator, answered.

Anything else, call the office at 310-828-2010.

  • It is an illustration, not a prediction. The model applies published risk factors and the slowing figures we cite on our treatment pages to a typical progression curve. Real children progress in spurts, which is why a consultation measures the actual trend.

  • The projected prescription at 18 if progression continues untreated at a pace typical for the age and risk factors you set — the baseline every treatment line is compared against.

  • Younger age at onset, one or two nearsighted parents, East or Southeast Asian heritage, and limited outdoor time are all published risk factors for faster progression — the estimator nudges the curve for each.

  • The model assumes about 50% for Ortho-K, from a 2023 review of seven randomized trials that found 53% less eye growth at one year and 47% at two; 71% for Stellest, from the two-year study the FDA reviewed; and roughly 50% for low-dose atropine and soft multifocal lenses, mid-range of published studies.

  • Lifetime risk tracks the prescription: retinal detachment, glaucoma, earlier cataracts and myopic maculopathy all rise with higher myopia. Every diopter avoided lowers that curve for good.

  • We confirm the prescription and eye health, take the measurements that guide treatment choice, review lifestyle, and recommend Ortho-K, atropine, Stellest, multifocals — or a combination — then verify it is working with follow-up data.
