The two-minute dry eye quiz.

Ten questions, a 0–30 score, and a straight answer on whether your symptoms deserve a workup.

Answer for the past two weeks. The questions are original and educational — in office we pair validated questionnaires with meibography, tear chemistry and gland imaging to find the cause, not just the score.

Over the past two weeks

Score your symptoms.

01What your score means

A number is a starting point — the cause is the point.

Dry eye is one name for several different diseases: oil glands that clog (evaporative), tear glands that underproduce (aqueous-deficient), lids that don’t seal, inflammation that feeds itself. The score tells you how loud the symptoms are; diagnostics tell us which disease is talking.

0–7 · Minimal
Habits and prevention: screen breaks, humidity, omega-3s. Retest if things trend up.
8–14 · Mild
A findable cause is usually present, so a baseline evaluation with meibography is worthwhile now.
15–22 · Moderate
Drops alone rarely fix this tier. A full workup maps which tear-film layer is failing.
23–30 · Significant
Book the medical workup, often billable to medical insurance, and start a targeted ladder: prescription drops, IPL, OptiLIFT, serum tears.

Anything else, call the office at 310-828-2010.

  • No — those are licensed clinical instruments. This is an original educational self-test covering the same symptom territory. At your evaluation we use validated questionnaires alongside objective tear-film diagnostics.

  • No. Symptoms and signs famously disagree in dry eye: some of the worst ocular surfaces barely complain, and some of the loudest symptoms come with subtle findings. Diagnosis takes gland imaging, tear assessment and a slit-lamp exam.

  • Trust the symptoms. Burning, watering or fluctuating vision with a low score can point at blepharitis, allergy, or early gland disease, all findable on examination. Book an evaluation and bring the specifics.

  • Often yes — dry eye is a medical condition, so medical insurance (not vision plans) typically applies to evaluation and many treatments. We verify benefits before your visit: call 310-828-2010.

  • A full ladder: prescription anti-inflammatory drops, punctal plugs, meibomian gland expression, IPL, OptiLIFT (DMST + radiofrequency), autologous serum tears, amniotic membranes and scleral lenses for the hardest surfaces.

From score to treatment plan.

The quiz measures the noise; an evaluation with a Los Angeles eye doctor finds the source. Dry eye care at Cohenmehr is led by Dr. Bijan Cohenmehr, with options that medical insurance often covers.
